Tiger Painting In Acrylics

Tiger painting is one of my favorite pieces, it was such a joy to work on. I try to visit a lot of zoos because of my fascination with animals. The zoo is also another way to feed my inspiration.

This beautiful tiger was at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and maybe still be there. She was so content and statuesque that I knew that I could paint her and do her justice.

Tiger painting done in acrylics. I wanted to make her as large as I seen her so this is a large painting (27″ X 38″) acrylic on board with wooden frame.

So before I start painting any animal I dive into their characteristics and habitat. I take mental notes on how I see them. Their personality is what I am attracted to. I love how they show us who they are. This girl tiger could careless that we were there and other tigers would come up to the front of the habitat demanding attention.

She sat between the trees in the shade watching the visitors’ walking by as if she was the queen looking over her kingdom.

The mediums drying time and lack of fumes is how I started using acrylic of choice. I continue to use them mainly because the flexibility and control I have while using it. This girl needs a little drama to bring out her best features and I believe this background suits her. Her striking eyes draw you in and the markings of her coat make her unmistakably a tiger.

This tiger painting and every one of my painting are a labor of love. The colors I choose are determined by the animal I’m painting. The brush stroke or plate stroke are also part of the processes of my vision. Creating great pieces of art that is my goal.
