Bluegreen by Any Other Name

Bluegreen by description is equal parts of blue and green to form the perfect marriage of two colors or is it? There are things to consider mixing your pigments if you want the perfect color to complement your art.

Colors of Blue or Green effect the outcome of mixing color

Cool blues are ones that have a green bias and here are a few I work with. Cobalt Blue is a true blue with no warm or cool tone. Phthalo Blue is a medium dark shade with no red and it leans to a more green shade because of the copper compound. Prussian Blue is a very deep blue that looks organic and is the name of the chemical compound.is Cerulean Blue a deep opaque and bright color due to its highly refractive particles. The color of the sky. Manganese Blue made from Magnesium Dioxide a deep blue the color that is a clear, greenish azure blue. Ultramarine Blue is a deep rich color that has a little more traces of red in it.

Today we have many shades of green that are premixed and they’re all cool colors. Some of the richer deeper tones have warmer shades like Olive Green, Hunter Green and Phthalo Green. Viridian Green, Emerald Green and Kelly Green are deep rich cool colors of green.

Bluegreen by the way comes by mixing this

I mix blue paint and yellow paint to get deep tones of green. The reason I do this is because I create the colors I need depend on the key of the piece I’m working on.

Bluegreen by adding some of the yellow colors to Ultramarine Blue will create cool or warm variation. These yellows are Cadmium Yellow light, Cadmium Yellow Dark, Lemon Yellow and Yellow Ochre.

First I blend a base of green color, because I can lighten it or darken it by using other colors on my color pallet. Also by adding any of the above Green or Blue colors I can blend a perfect shade of Bluegreen. I used shades blue and glazes of yellows and greens to create motion in these paintings.
