Gardening is an Art

Gardening is an art. It is more than just filling a flower pot pot or putting annuals in the ground.

Color in gardening is seasonal

Colors burst into life with the change of every season. Every color is represented in a year in my garden. The spring is filled with pastels and vibrant shades that change as the day goes on.

I love that the light of the sun or the shades of color that present before the rain and when the skies go dark. This painting of color with a viridity of texture and shapes.

Gardening is always changing

Gardening is about change and spring brings new growth and a breath of brightness to the humdrum of the end of winter. Once the snow melts everything looks drab, the trees are bare and lifeless. Then the first signs of life sprout out.

My favorite is the peeks of color that are the first to arrive like the crocus, the snowdrops and the tiny buds on the dead looking trees around me. Within six weeks the landscape changes.

Enter summer when the pastels of the trees have dropped leaving a color blanket around the trees as the petals fall to let the leaves come forward with a color show of their own.

Clean-up is gardening

Now our gardening is focused on cleaning up the vision and changing thing that may accent another part of the gardens or removing parts that may have died off or have over grown their space. I prepare for the heat of summer by covering my gardens with a grounding color of mulch.

It’s like putting the final touches on my painting. I break out my yard art and plant veggies. The beautiful bright colors of purple, pink, oranges and yellow surrounded by all colors of green are here until fall.

How beautiful is fall, colors like crimson, gold, yellows, oranges in every shade. These leaves fall covering everything with color that turns every brown. A time to harvest and prepare for winter.

Winter brings out the darkness of shades of gray and evergreen. The dark vertical lines of bare trees standing tall to weather the harsh winter weather. Then a sign of beauty and calm as the snow come in changing everything with a white blanket.

Sun shows us what brightness is when it reflects off the snow and when it does the contrast of shadow and light does a dance of its own.

I am willing to do the work to bring my vision for this property to life. A vision that is shared with my neighbors.
