Leadership Starts With You

Leaderships start with knowing wanting something is not the same as needing it as. Needs are food water and shelter. Wanting is an emotional reaction to pleasure. So what does this have to do with our identity?

Every person has needs and wants. Parents step into the roll of leadership they give their children what they need and what they want to support them. We are exposed early to outside influences that affect the way we think. It is the media and judgment from our peers that cause us pain or pleasure. This may trigger confusion on the difference between what our needs and wants really are.

Seeing, hearing, smelling and touching are the tool we inherited to survive. Listening with your senses started at birth, how we react to what we need as babies is natural. As we grow and understand how to get what we want, our parents place boundaries on us and introduced us to discipline. A child learns early that they are at the mercy of their family and will learn how to respond to get what they need. If you’re told repeatedly that you need and deserve something even when you don’t, you won’t understand the difference between a need and a want. Disciplined is setting the boundaries.

Discipline is training a state of improved behavior, improvement of physical power and self-control. Our brain is the key to getting what we need and want. If you are a victim to your emotions then you need to discipline your brain to act instead of reacting to the emotional triggers around you. You have to practice everything so that your brain knows what it has to do on its own. Just knowing you have to do something, is not enough.

Example: I am over weight because I have bad eating habits, there for I have to practice good eating habits to change the bad habits. I have a bad temper. No you have a bad habit triggered from an emotional behavior. You will only have self-control when you practice it. He is the best player on the team because he practiced until he could act with complete control over the game he plays.

Your brain will tell your body what to do when you practice it. If you don’t replace bad habits with good habits they will control your life. A computer is like a brain, unfortunately our brain doesn’t have the software to improve its performance. You are not what anyone tells you, you are what you tell yourself. All you have to do is listen to what you are telling your brain to do. If you tell yourself you don’t know how to something, you won’t. Your brain will not know what to do until you educate it to do so. Discipline yourself by practicing what you have to do and then act on your training.

Just because you put the uniform on doesn’t mean that your brain will tell your body how to play the game. You have to do your home work! You have to practice, know the game inside and out, then and only then you are ready to play in the game.

People fall victim to the world around them. You want to stand out in the crowd you have to practice discipline. In order to practice you need to find the training. You are not a player until you get in the game.

It is your life and your choices that define who you are, be accountable to yourself. Practice it, so you can stand out as a person of excellence. If you want what I have and are not willing to work for it, you can’t have it. Don’t throw a fit to get where you want to be. I had to change the way what I was doing to get what I need to live the way I want. I study it and practice it until I gained the skills to act without emotion when making decisions. , standout and be the example. People will follow your lead.

Develop Your Business Character

To develop a business character you look at yourself and see what parts of your personality you would like to change. If you are waiting for others to change you are in big trouble. The people in your life don’t want you to control them. Don’t dwell on them, the person that is reading this is the one that needs changes. As we work on ourselves other will changing around us or is it that they aren’t changing we are. Your perception is what is changing.

Investing in a relationship is emotional, you are constantly working on it and yourself. You will want to bring your best every time you are with them. That is why it is so important to build strong relationships with friends and family. You can bring your best to every person you meet and that doesn’t mean you have to emotionally invest in them.

As I work on my posture, the way I look at people is changing. People that are rude to me or don’t take time to listen to what I have to offer really doesn’t matter any more. I don’t emotionally invest in what they are going to say or do until I see what type of person they are. I can tell in just a few seconds if the person is positive or negative. I have decided that I am a positive person and want positive people around me. Does that mean they are going to what my offer? They probably won’t and that’s okay. This business model doesn’t hinge on whether they join me. I talk to so many people, that a single person will not make or break my business. There are millions of people who what to hear what I am offering and if it is an opportunity they can see themselves in.

Confident and disciplined are a few things that successful business people have. They let rejection roll of their back. The people you partner with are the people who have a vision of a positive outcome. It is your outlook that determines what you want out of the business relationship. I want to spend time with people who are willing to succeed.

Would you be willing to?

  • Treat others the way you would like to be treated
  • Do just about anything to get to their goal
  • Trust worthy
  • Treat other with respect
  • Willing to compromise
  • Listen to what others say
  • Learn from them
  • Teach them something they need to succeed as a business partner
  • Take action and make decisions without emotion
  • Live up to your Commitments

The reason I ask these questions is because these are the characteristics that I look for in every relationship I have. These are the some of the things I worked on to become a good partner. Don’t be self deceptive, If you by-pass yourself when you learn these things and go right to teaching them to others, you are not working on your character and it will show in everything you do. Be ready to follow and learn the characteristic of people you admire. Lead as a teacher in your action and your words.

We want to think that we jumped into this business with a clear idea about what we have to do. We are not willing to become the person that we want to work with. As I develop in this business I want to learn as much as I can so I can bring an open positive person to each relationship I have in business.

What is an Entrepreneur Made of?

There are many people who come to mind when we hear the word entrepreneur. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are examples of great entrepreneur because they changed their lives by helping other. Our lives will never go back to what they were before computers because of these men and the choices they made.

Before the McDonald’s came along we ate at home or at a local restaurant that were own and operated buy a person or a family. The McDonald brothers who owned restaurants that severed the same quality product, a simple and effective operation. They ran their restaurant business on a few items concentrating on cleanliness, quality and uniformity. They did everything the same at more than one location. Ray Kroc seen this business model as a product. He knew that he could take this restaurant and copy it and open restaurants like this all over the world. His vision was to create his business by giving other entrepreneurs the opportunity to own a profitable business. You would be in business for yourself but not by yourself. Investing your money in a proven business model through duplication everyone benefits. Ray Kroc caused a disruption in the restaurant industry and changed may lives by supplying what people needed to make a dream of owning a business a reality. Each location any where in the world would have a business owner spending their own money invested in the success of the business and the brand McDonalds.

This is an example that shows us how an entrepreneur thinks. These brothers knew if they wanted to succeed they had to come up with a simple model that could be copied with same quality of the product and Ray Kroc could see these restaurants were the product that he could see all over the world. He knew that he could not do it alone so he helped others with a dream to own their own business. Helped them get started and he supplied an opportunity based on a proven product and those who took advantage of the opportunity are McDonalds’ owners. Franchising the business he made it possible for everyone to profit. He took ordinary people and gave them the opportunity to own a successful business.

They are willing to change to do what it takes to get what they want. It is part of the way they live is part of their identity. Entrepreneurs are people with a vision who start and support a business. They see an opportunity and act on it. They don’t live their lives waiting for a pay check they go out and create their wealth. Thinking outside of the box and listening to their gut is as important as breathing for an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurs use change it to their advantage. Successful people are open to change because it brings opportunity. They stand out as leaders and are rewarded with success. An entrepreneur starts a business alone and realizes that he may own the business, but can do nothing without the people around them. They live a life of training and negotiating. They are willing to share their knowledge and opportunity with everyone they meet.

Life is our challenge that has no limits. Going forward is part of growing up, yet some of us rise above the standard for a happy life. We want control over how we live and the time we have while we are alive. The people who don’t settle, are willing to change and will do what it takes to get what they want. This is what entrepreneur are made of.

Posture Yourself For a Better Position

Posture was so important when we were growing up, sit up straight, raise your head and don’t slouch. We heard that every day, my dad was in the military and posture was very important. It is the way people see you. You want to show your strengths not your weakness, he would say. So we did as we were told and we grew up with great posture.

I am in a marketing business myself and I can see why it is so important. People want you to take the lead and they put their trust in those of us that have great mental posture. The posture of a person can tell so much about whom they are and where they are going. My father was not only talking about physical posture he was all so talking about your mental posture. When you meet a person you want to leave a good impression, you want people to see that you are confidant and that what you do matters. You want to show off the education you have and make those around you comfortable as you engage in conversation.

When you are in business for yourself you want other to see that you are strong, capable and ready to do whatever it takes. People come to you because you are confident and that makes them feel safe. They can see you do what you say and take pride in what you do. Posturing yourself is not always easy when you are just starting out. Fear of the unknown and how people will respond to you, your product or your offer will paralyzing some people who think they have what it takes to succeed.

Many famous people are so much different when you meet them in person. While you see them one way their friends and family see them another. They have to put on a game face, so to speak to deal with performing in front of people. The talent they show off is only a very small part of who they are. So many of us have to put on our game face when we start, we want people to take what we are doing serious. We want them to take a look at us as the authority and fear keeps us from taking those first steps to putting on our game face.

That is why it is so important to practice what you are going to say and how you are going to say it. A singer does not go out on stage without practicing the song that they are going to sing and you should not call or talk to people without know what to say. One of the things I do is record what I am going to say and then listen to it over and over until it becomes part of my posture. I want to know what I am talking about when someone questions me about my business and I want them to feel confident that I am the one to show them how to succeed in a marketing business.

Everyone has the potential to change what they are doing if they want to, but you cannot give someone the drive to do it. They either have it or they don’t, fear will stop you in your tracks if you are not ready to do whatever it takes to get what you want. That is why you start your business you need to be prepare before you open the doors to let anyone inside. If you are in direct sales you deal with people every day and you have to posture yourself for you are your business. You know the products and the opportunity work, which is why you have chosen this business model to go forward with the goals you have set for yourself.

Practice, practice, practice, on the phone, with your family and friends and have fun because you are on your way to an incredible life style one that not everyone can do. You don’t need a better place you need to posture yourself in the place you in.

Our military will not go to battle without running drill after drill until they have no fear of battle and the ones that are not sure will never show their fear because it would cost them their life. My dad was in two wars and if he were here he would say… “Straighten up; get the job done, the more you do it the less you think about what you are doing,  just do it.” The worse thing that can happen is someone will say no and guess what? Most of them will, get ready by not caring about rejection, let it roll off your back because this is a number business and there are people who do say yes and those are the ones with the drive to succeed. You are in a place to guide them and that’s what matters.

Memory Joggers And How To Use Them

Memory joggers can help you with your marketing efforts. It’s part of the package. Marketing material, training manual, and the products you can use or give away as samples to prospects. Inside the manual you will find printed material and the one you want to focus on is a memory jogger. If your manual doesn’t have one you can make one easy or download one from your back office, most companies supply a memory jogger with their training materials.

So what do you do with your memory jogger? Start by writing down the names of everyone you know, matching them with their occupation. Whether they are friends, family or just an acquaintance put them on the list. This is a great way to keep you focused on contacting everyone you know. All you have to do is contact as many as you have on your list by phone or mail. Right! If less than 10% of everyone you contact is going to entertain your offer, you better have an endless list.

So how do you get more out of the memory jogger?

  • Select the people in your friends and family that are already a success at bring in an income and open to making extra money for family vacations etc…
  • Graduated from college in the last 5 years you are on my list. You have proven that you will do what it takes to educate yourself and use any leverage to get ahead in your goals.
  • The teachers from the local school are great candidates they are into self educating to keep their teaching skills up to date.
  • Doctors, lawyers and business owner work long hours and may want to work less or retire early. Your opportunity will give them that.

We can go through each person on the memory jogger list, but you get the drift. Your list is more than just writing down the names of the people you know. It is a grow file and that paper that you got is just a guide to get you started. I say take that list and change it into a filing system that you can categorize everyone you know, meet and new relationships that you will be making.

The folders are based on your memory jogger and put local contacts into a folder labeled local talent. I look for qualities that you can build a business relationship with. The inside of the folder has a list of 5 qualifying questions. If you meet the requirements you get a file with your name, number, date and contact time, along with a call back number. I leave an open space to write your questions and set a date for a three-way call with a team member in the company who will have the answers.

Make a point to invite everyone in your folders to local events by phone, email or mail. Doctors and lawyer have a folder of their own with the same a file with name, number, date and contact time, along with a call back number. I leave an open space to write down your questions and set a date for a three way call with a team member that is seasoned in the company.

Think about the strategy that you put into your list these are local people and you are choosing the people you will want to have a business relationship with. You don’t want to waste your time on anyone that does not qualify for your time. You are putting them in a position that is give and take. If they are not going to work at building their business, than they are a broken wheel on a cart that will go nowhere until a new one is put in its place. That is why the qualifications are so important. You don’t want to drag them into anything they cannot do. You are guiding who you sponsor.

The companies that you are in business with are multimillion dollar businesses and will weed out anyone that doesn’t have what it takes to success.

So even if the memory jogger is a good way to get started it is what you do with the people on the list. Don’t waste too much time on close family and friends if they get curious enough they will ask you. Then feel free to share just enough to see if they qualify for business time. They will always have your love and quality time and that is why you are doing this.

Your Brand is you

Now you are branding yourself and ready to launch your business on the internet. You want to be creditable, you want others to see you as a treasure with endless value. Everyone that receives your newsletter, sales letter or reads your blog is there for value. Your reputation it is your brand and it is fragile.

The Leader: The person with the answers.

  • What problem can you solve for these people?
  • Can you put yourself in there shoes?
  • How can you bring more value to their business?

Your brand is your personality, your brand is you. How the world sees you is your opportunity to show off how much you know about your niche.  You are the one with the solutions and that will set you apart from others, you are in the position that you are looking for.Show it off!

Here are some important things you should remember:

  • Design is not your brand. Yet it can reflect parts of your personality. How you dress up and go out is the image you want the world to see.
  • Advertising is not your brand it is world’s perception of how we present ourselves and the products we want to be seen or heard. How you act when you are out.
  • Public Relations is not your brand it is getting people to verify that you deliver on what you have promised in a positive way adding credibility to you.
  • Collateral. Collateral is not your brand. It’s function is to add interest and information to those who have decided to check you out.
  • Concept  is not your brand. A great concept can get someone to talk to you as a salesperson or click onto your link. Examples:  YouTube to do your blogging, a great sales letter, banner or add. Keeping it simple( takes a licking and…) you got the idea. Good concepts surprise, great concepts hold attention, Effective concepts are very specific, and very simplistic, about what they want to achieve.

So now that you can see your brand is fragile it reminds me of the saying “you can dress um up but you can’t take em out.” No one will show interest in you if you spam them with ads that are product related, if you want people to be attracted to you and what you have to offer remember this, people do business with the people they like and trust, not with someone who is just posting ads with no value.

As you are branding yourself come up with a design, advertising, public relations that show off your collateral in a winning well formatted concept. My mother always would say if you are hanging out with the wrong crowd it will only get you in trouble, people will see you as a troublemaker even if you are not. As you can see that branding is very important to who you attract to your business. I will only partner with people that deliver on how they brand themselves. If you deliver on your brand it is good decision for me to do business with you it can only make my brand stronger.

Focused on the idea that the new you is ready to deliver, your content for a specific audiences, and then developed campaigns on that concept with personality and style, your style. Put your twist on delivering what your customers (leads) want.

Today we are all trying to get on the fast tract to earning there are no short cuts if you want to be around for along time and successful while you are here. Dress up and go out into the world as a leader and others will follow you. The greatest complement is when someone want to be like you. We cannot be that person we look up to, we can emulate the charter that we respect and that we were drawn to.

Top companies work for years to establish a brand, today we can do it in such a short time on the internet. Social media is launching people to high positions and it is your responsibility to deliver on every thing that you promise. Do your homework, know your company and any products that you are backing, you don’t want to be with the wrong crowd when it comes to credibility. I back the products that I use or that I believe in. These people have prove to me that they can deliver and they will recommend the people who help them along the way to their success. This gave me the option to work with the best educated minds in the industry.

A recommendation is your ticket on the road to success and more then one is the difference between coach and owning your own jet. You should collect them as your treasures for they are priceless and one of a kind. You are the topic and highly regarded in your niche.

Branding is not as hard as we think, we have already started on the right track just don’t forget who you are and be authentic. Stay true to yourself and let your personality shine.
